Welcome
Welcome
to Energy Yoga which has been developed to increase vitality
and health in the physical body whilst also working with the psycho-spiritual connection to quieten the mind.
Fiona has been studying yoga since 1993 and originally trained as a yoga therapist with the Yoga for Health Foundation. In the late 80s Fiona ran a busy PR business but became very ill with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME). Initially she was in a wheelchair but made a full recovery by following a yogic lifestyle - click here to read Fiona's story in full. In 1998 she wrote Beat Fatigue with Yoga (Cherry Red books), followed by a DVD which she made with Sue Delf. She is also author of Endless Energy (Piatkus). She is KHYF registered (accredited as an advanced teacher by the British Wheel of Yoga). Her mentor is Gill Lloyd, who is a student of TKV Desikachar.
Fiona visits India regularly to deepen her knowledge of yogic philosophy and has studied the Patanjali Yoga Sutras with Desikachar and his son Kausthub and also at the Vyasa ashram in Bangalore. She studies Vedanta – the science of self-realisation- with her teacher James Swartz, a disciple of Swami Chinmayananda and communicates the knowledge – ‘I am whole, complete, peaceful, unchanging and authentic’ through her teaching.
Fiona works as a yoga therapist in Portsmouth where she uses yoga, tailored for the individual, to help empower the client in the journey towards healing and self-discovery by learning how to quieten the mind and detach from the identity and problems of suffering. She runs retreats in the UK and around the world for people with chronic health problems and is a regular contributor to Yoga and Health magazine. Fiona teaches philosophy for Yoga Campus on their Yoga Therapy Diploma and also runs IST days on CFS for teachers for the British Wheel of Yoga. She is registered with the CNHC as a Yoga Therapist and is currently developing a teacher-training module for the BWY.
"Yoga is about function not form. Today, too many people put emphasis on form in yoga. The function of yoga is to be happy and free - free from our attachments and free from suffering." Kausthub Desikachar.
