Grenadine Lodge Turkey Retreat

Yoga retreat in Dalyan, Turkey 13th - 20th June 2011

Grenadine Lodge

Dalyan is a magical place surrounded by hills, lakes and a beautiful river. The stunning white sandy beach, which is a short bus or boat trip away from Grenadine Lodge, is a conservation area for turtles and was voted as the best open space in Europe by the Times in 2007.

The yoga retreat takes place at peaceful Grenadine Lodge, which is also in the conservation area. There is a swimming pool, a restaurant which serves delicious home-grown food and a small bar that serves hot and cold drinks, including fresh pomegranate juice – a speciality of the region. The yoga take place a in shady woven hut and is a beautiful space for the stronger hatha practise in the morning and the restful, restorative session in the afternoon. Massage is also available.

Dalyan itself is dominated by a river. Attractions in Dalyan include the Saturday market which sells local produce including spices, fabrics, clothes and leather. The town has a cafe culture; you can sip a fresh juice by the river or maybe visit the Art Cafe for a latte whilst you browse amongst the pictures and jewellery. There are many excursions available including a visit to the Haman (Turkish steam baths) or an all-day boat trip to the twelve islands. Perhaps best of all is the Saturday evening trip to the warm mineral lake and the hot mud baths. A private boat takes the yoga group for a quiet evening swim in the lake, followed by a session in a mud bath, which bubbles hot straight up from the earth, then a dip in the natural sulphur pool, followed by another swim in the body temperature lake. This is all finished with a fresh fish barbeque back on the private boat. On the other hand you may wish to do nothing at all apart from some yoga and just hang out at the pool . It is a very beautiful region to do as much or as little as you want.

In the village there is an excellent hardware store with all sorts of 'goodies', a spice shop, a patisserie where you can have a genuine cappuccino and Turkish cakes and a small supermarket where you can purchase olives and nuts to bring home. A variety of trips can be arranged; visit the local Turkish baths, there are hot springs, mud baths and a huge lake to explore and customised boat trips with swimming and barbecue lunches.

It's a very beautiful and enjoyable region to do as much, or as little, as you wish.
