Yoga for ME Workshop with Fiona Agombar - Winnersh July
10th 2009
I had previously been introduced to Fiona’s Yoga
to Beat Fatigue via her book and D.V.D. so I was delighted
to be able to go to her workshop. 14 of us joined Fiona
for a very interesting and informative session. Apart
from two Yoga teachers the rest of us had ME/FM in varying
degrees and many of us have been attending the weekly
remedial yoga session, for people with limited mobility,
with Elizabeth Moir.
Fiona advised us at the beginning that yoga was non
competitive and to do only what felt right for us today.
We started with concentration on our breathing and relaxation,
after that we did various gentle stretches the majority
of which was done lying down. We finished with a half
hour of deep relaxation called Yoga Nidra. After that
we all felt extremely relaxed and sleepy so it was good
to have the opportunity to have a cup of tea afterwards
so that we could wake up, ground ourselves, and chat
to Fiona and each other.
As Fiona’s session was 2 hrs long, and bearing
in mind that most of us had been used to a shorter 1hr
yoga session, it was not unexpected that a couple of
people felt fatigued and achy later that day & the
next.
Fiona’s story of going from being wheelchair bound
with M.E. to being a fully well yoga tutor is indeed
an inspiration to us all who are struggling with M.E.I
think we were all inspired to try to practice regular
yoga to improve our fatigue and would welcome the opportunity
to have further sessions with Fiona.
Dr Patricia Williams.
Fiona Agombar is happy to come and run yoga workshops
for local ME/CFS groups. Fiona also runs yoga retreats/holidays
for ME in England and Turkey.
Many Thanks
